Traveltek reveals top 10 Christmas destinations 2017
Traveltek Group Ltd has revealed the top 10 Christmas destinations for 2017, with New York proving the top hotspot among Brits this festive season.
The Big Apple is also the most popular choice with global travellers, while a UK regional breakdown reveals that Londoners’ top choice is Miami in Florida and heat-seeking Scots are eyeing Tenerife in the Canary Islands for some winter sun.
Traveltek’s list of top 10 Christmas destinations is based on flight booking data from the travel technology firm’s vast client database, which includes the majority of independent travel agencies across the UK, as well as travel companies in several international markets.
It covers all flight bookings out of major UK airports between December 18th and 24th 2017, while data on London airports, Scottish airports, Manchester Airport and several international air hubs have also been compiled to determine specific booking patterns for each market.
After New York, the most popular destinations for UK travellers are Barcelona, Tenerife, Miami and Malta respectively.
European destinations dominate the list, with Alicante, Lanzarote, Amsterdam and Malaga ranking sixth to ninth respectively. The only non-European destination besides New York on the list is Dubai, which ranks 10th, reflecting the Middle East city’s growing popularity with Brits seeking winter sun.
“Our research found UK travellers are mostly heading to warmer climes this Christmas, although New York – a city known for celebrating the season in style and often cloaked in snow – remains the number one favourite,” commented Peter Whittle, Global Sales Director, Traveltek Group Ltd.
“What is also clear from our data is that our clients have been inundated with festive bookings, which in the UK has no doubt been spurred by the recent ‘big freeze’, and this ends the year on an optimistic note for the travel trade.”
Regional breakdowns reveal the top three Christmas destinations for Londoners are Miami, New York and Barcelona, while travellers out of Manchester are opting for New York, Tenerife and Miami, and Scots are departing for Tenerife, Miami and Barcelona this Christmas.
Popular destinations outside of Europe include Sydney, Australia; Orlando, Florida; and Barbados in the Caribbean.
