Our First Hackathon is on March 25th 2017
On Saturday, March 25th 2017 we are going to be running our first hackathon. We believe in hard work, but we also believe in a good night’s sleep, which is why we’re running #halfahackathon – 12 hours, rather than 24.
We’re looking for anyone with an interest in web development and a career/internship with Traveltek to come along and work as a team to create the best travel search experience. We’ll assign teams on the day, then give each one access to our XML search API documentation, and let you loose to take the cruise, flight or hotel data that the API returns to see what creative user journey you can come up with. What can you do to improve upon the way travel websites currently work? How would you show flight results to highlight the best ones? What would you do with hotel listings to let people find the right choice for them quickly? Can you remix the results with another public source of data you can pull from elsewhere?
Traveltek is a company that loves creativity, which means we want to see your ideas, and hear your thinking. We don’t want to tell you what to do. You show us what you think is best.
This is open to both frontend and backend developers, as every discipline will be required. We want to see the best user experience you can come up with, and that will require HTML, CSS, Javascript and a backend application that can access the API. Your team can write that part in either Python, PHP, Perl or Javascript (via NodeJS), and we’ll provide an Ubuntu Linux server for you to run it on.
You should bring along your own laptop to work on, and we’ll provide the wifi. We’ll also provide the food, some great prizes for the winning team, and a whole bunch of Traveltek development mentors to answer your questions and help you throughout the day. Come along, have some fun, improve your skills and learn something new.
